ok, we all remember the zonefucker and his various aliases, who were, I might add, were dealt with by the admins and cl's and who we have not seen for some considerable time, but today a regular zone user appeared to log into the site and post similar topics to the safe haven boards. this user also sent me a private message and I'd imagine I wasn't the only one. thing is, although I don't know this user very well, I've seen her online, and it just doesn't seem like her kind of behavior, so what concerns me now ... has someone managed to hack into her account? and if this is the case, are we all at risk of the same? the user in question was goldenly dolphin, so .. what do you think

huh?... that is... scary

Post 3 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 05-Jun-2005 15:52:50

That's how it looks on the surface.

well at least he's gone

Post 5 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Sunday, 05-Jun-2005 16:11:21

ah but has he. if he can hack into one account, how many others can he hack into. let's not forget we have over 2000 members here!

Post 6 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 05-Jun-2005 16:27:56

He (or she) will soon find that it's not worth his/her time. It seriously took less than 5 minutes to clean up the posts, and that time can and will be shortened if necessary. *shrug*

Post 7 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Sunday, 05-Jun-2005 16:42:54

ah yeh, but what happens to the accounts of the users he hacks into

Well, I haven't talked to Goldenly Dolphin, except she replied to one of my posts once, so I'm not sure if its in her nature to send junk like that or not. I got a private message from her, or it too, and deleteed the email from my outlook express in box when I read what the subject line said. My first thought was that it was her, since I tend to think it's whose name is in the from field. But a similar situation like this happened on theaccessible chat program, that is, someone hacked in to private rooms using this persons user name, and I was 100 percent sure it was him, and left the room as soon as he came in it, till he came and demanded to know why I left. In the end, I was left having to apologize to him, because whoever was doing it probably used mirc to do it. I don't know how, just because I couldn't use mirc to do something like that, doesn't mean it can't be done. The only way I would feel absolutely certain it wasn't that person who was sending these kind of messages, would be if he/she used someones name, that I knew it wasn't in their character to do something like this, say lord lover, or you sugar baby, then I could say for certain, no way, this person would never do something like that, but when it's someone I've never talked to, I have to say, I'm not sure.

Well, the discount is disabled, but still there are board posts like this in the safe-haven-board and on here and I think this is scary.

'It took less than 5 minutes to clean up the posts'...
but they are all still there!? *shrug* eh

....and more showed up and then dissappeared...

I haven't spoken much to GD before either, but I'll agree that the posts and QN's today look like being our little troll from the other month. The same users were specifically targeted as well.

hmm! the zone bbs is haunted!

Post 15 by 404 to the 508 (Generic Zoner) on Monday, 06-Jun-2005 15:24:50

Well, I'm confused, because she loved on as the normal person at the end appologizing when another one was on there saying abd stuff and c a e s u r e. But I'm not even sure if it is possible to log on in more than one PC. If not, than it was her.

That is how it appears on the surface, Chris N, but it is really also the case. It was indeed a hacker, and I apologize to those who were needlessly insulted by the jerk. I assure you it is not in my nature to post such things. I am the sweetest, friendliest person you could ever meet, until you get on my bad side. And I don't know any of you well enough for that to have happened. So, again, I'm sorry. It seems like things have calmed down around here ... for the time being.

Well, I got 2 private messages from him/her/it, I will call our anonymous friend it, since we don't know for sure it's a male or female, but not knowing what else to do to avoid that kind of junk, I went in to my account settings and put the goldenly dolphin on my ignore list. If it persists and finds other means to use people's nick names, I'll just have to turn private mail off.

I only got one message from the retard and it took that 1 message, I cussed him out and ignored him right away so he couldn't say anything else to me cause I didn't give him a chance. It's obvious that for 2 reasons, he hasn't graduated from grade school and will never make it, or 2 he was dropped on his head several times.

Post 20 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 06-Jun-2005 20:28:50

lol mitchelle, that sounds about right. I don't cuss, so the only thing for me to do is just delete them when they come in and not reply. I just figured if I replied to him, or it, it wouuld send me about 12 more such junk messages. I don't know if it is trying to get a response from me or not, but it is on my ignore list now. The ignore feature is my best friend.

Well nevertheless guys - this hacker must be a zone-user. Because he/she knew many usernames. So ... you see, we can not trust everyone.

Post 22 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 10-Jun-2005 18:38:07

that's true, sounds like he/she/ it, is a regular user. It would have to be to know so many user names.

ally omg... I talked to you once, and you don't seem like that at all... yes ppl I think it was a hacker... why would ally do such a thing? honestly? I seriously think... well... that yes as lu said the zoneBBS is haunted

Post 24 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Saturday, 11-Jun-2005 5:36:23

actually that's not true. all someone has to do is look at the boards to get to know users by their names. you don't have to be a member or logged in to access the message boards, when you go to the log in page there is a list of online users, a link to access the boards ... so actually, anyone surfing the net could get to know the online users here without even ever logging into the site.

Post 25 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 11-Jun-2005 20:15:53

well, you have a point sugar baby, the hacker doesn't really have to know us at all, I guess he could just pick someone else at random. My worry is he might log in as me at some point, and send people vile disgusting posts, and people might think it was me, except the ones I've talked to several times, then I guess the shoe would be on the other foot. I'd have no way to proove it wasn't me, so I couldn't really blame anyone if they thought it was me. I guess it boils down to whether or not you know a persons character or not. If I've never really talked to someone, I'd say, well I'm not sure, but then on the other hand, if it read enough of a persons posts, it couuld get an idea of how that person talked, andimmitate that persons style, or what people might think is that persons style.

Post 26 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Saturday, 11-Jun-2005 21:16:20

Yeah, I agree that the hacker would not actually have to be a regular member. If it has patience enough to follow the posts, it could target specific Zoners based on what it sees going on. . And as for the hacker using someone else's name to get on, if you have a good firewall, virus protection, and spyware detection programs installed, that might at least make it difficult if not impossible for that to happen.
